The College Process at Hudson is built on deep knowledge of each student. Counselors guide students through the full arc of the process: from identifying colleges that fit academically, socially, and financially, to crafting applications that present each student’s authentic voice and accomplishments.

    College counseling begins in 9th grade with academic planning, extracurricular development, and early college exploration.

    Representatives from colleges and universities visit Hudson directly, and students are supported in planning campus visits of their own.

    Students receive hands-on guidance drafting essays, requesting recommendations, and completing applications on time.

  • Financial Aid Navigation

    Counselors help families understand financial aid options and prepare the materials needed for scholarship and grant applications.

When does college counseling begin at Hudson?

College counseling at Hudson is a four-year process beginning in 9th grade. Early years focus on academic planning, building extracurricular depth, and initial college exploration. Active counseling (lists, essays, applications) intensifies in 11th and 12th grade.

How much individual attention does each student receive?

Because Hudson is a small school of approximately 280 students total, counselors know each Upper School student personally. Students meet with their counselor regularly throughout high school, and family meetings are built into the process at key milestones.

Hudson graduates attend a wide range of colleges and universities: from selective research universities to liberal arts colleges, art schools, conservatories, and specialized programs.
