With 280 students across Preschool–Grade 12, The Hudson School offers the intimacy of a small school and the richness of a full academic program. Classes cap at 16 students, and run smaller still in advanced language and niche electives. Our 55 faculty members, who average 16 years of teaching experience, know their students by name, learning style, and passion.

In 2023–24, 29% of our students received need-based financial aid, with grants ranging from $1,200 to $24,000. Financial aid applications are processed separately and have no bearing on admission decisions, which are based on student qualifications alone.

What a day at Hudson feels like.
Mornings begin together, with students gathering by division to set an intention for the day ahead. What follows is a rhythm of small, discussion-driven classes where curiosity sets the pace: a Socratic seminar in the Classics, an experiment run until it finally works, a new language spoken aloud from the very first day. Because our classes are small and our teachers know every student by name, children are encouraged to think independently, question openly, and take real intellectual risks. Between lessons they spill outside for fresh Hoboken air, then return for the art, music, athletics, and clubs that make each afternoon their own. It adds up to a full, engaged, and genuinely joyful day, built on the belief that learning should always feel like discovery.

What grades do you serve, and what are the main entry points?
The Hudson School serves Preschool (PreK-3 and PreK-4) through Grade 12. Common entry points are PreK, Kindergarten, Grade 6, and Grade 9, though openings vary by year.
What makes Hudson’s program distinctive?
Hudson is known for its strength in languages, classics, philosophy, and the humanities. We encourage autonomy, independence, and joy, and we want every student to find their own path while getting to be who they are.
What world languages do you offer?
Spanish begins in Kindergarten. Starting in Grade 5, students choose among French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Japanese, and we offer Latin in the upper middle grades and Upper School.
What support do you offer for students with learning differences?
We have a full-time learning specialist in the Lower School and separate social-emotional counselors in the Middle and Upper Schools. From Kindergarten on, support is evaluated case by case with the relevant division head.
