A school built on curiosity, courage, and character.

Since 1978, The Hudson School has welcomed curious, able students into a dynamic urban community where every child is known, mentored, and challenged to grow — intellectually, creatively, and ethically.

Our Mission

Opening new windows on the world.

Founded by Suellen Newman, The Hudson School was born from a conviction that children deserve more than rote learning — they deserve an education that opens new windows on the world, constantly challenges assumptions, encourages intellectual risk-taking, and fosters appreciation of the rich cultural diversity found in an urban setting. Forty-six years later, that founding vision still guides everything we do.

Our Community

Small enough to know every student. Big enough to matter.

With 280 students from Toddler through Grade 12, The Hudson School offers the intimacy of a small school — 55 dedicated faculty, small class sizes, and a Head of School who knows every child by name — alongside a rigorous, full PreK–12 program accredited by the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools. Our two Hoboken campuses, on Willow Ave and Park Ave, are woven into the fabric of this vibrant urban community.

Three C’s. One community.

Every policy, program, and practice at The Hudson School flows from three core values that define what it means to be a Hornet.

Courage

Students are asked to take intellectual risks, own their education, seek help when they need it, and persevere through difficulty — whether in a classroom, on a stage, or on the field.

Compassion

Spirited debate and vigorous inquiry are grounded in genuine care for one another. We seek to help every student experience the power of kindness as a daily practice, not a slogan.

Commitment

A commitment to noble causes, academic endeavors, and personal integrity is central to a THS education. Hudson students show up, follow through, and hold themselves to a high standard.
