Thinking critically, arguing well.
Seventh grade is a pivotal year at The Hudson School—one where students move from comprehension to analysis, from understanding the world to forming and defending their own views of it.
Advanced reading, writing, and algebraic thinking.
Language Arts takes students to advanced levels of close reading and persuasive writing, including five-paragraph essays, creative writing workshops with professional poets, and literary works by Poe, Hinton, Steinbeck, Faulkner, Bishop, Stevens, and Hughes—plus a local poetry program with visiting poets. Pre-Algebra provides intensive exposure to algebraic notation, equations, Pythagorean Theorem, probability, and permutations—building full readiness for formal Algebra 1 in 8th grade. Coordinators: Randi Roberts & Brian Dellett.

Environmental Science develops real scientific and ethical understanding: ecology, biodiversity, energy resources, human population dynamics, land use, pollution, and sustainability are explored through hands-on projects, experiments, debates, student presentations, and analysis of current news. Students develop both scientific method and a sense of environmental stewardship.
