Where young people find their voice.

The Hudson School’s Middle School guides students in Grades 5–8 through one of the most important and dynamic chapters of their lives—with academic rigor, genuine community, and the space to grow into themselves.

Our Community

A place to be known, challenged, and supported.

Small class sizes—typically 12 to 15 students—mean every teacher and advisor knows every student. That personal attention is what makes The Hudson School’s Middle School different: students aren’t anonymous. They are seen, heard, and helped to develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive.

Social-Emotional Development

Learning who you are—not just what you know.

At The Hudson School, social-emotional learning is inseparable from academic achievement. Through our advisory program, peer mentoring, and character education initiatives, students build empathy, resilience, communication skills, and leadership. Our faculty and counseling team work closely with every student to help them navigate peer relationships, identity formation, and the emotional demands of adolescence—in a community where it’s safe to take risks and make mistakes.

Academic Excellence

Challenging coursework with real support.

Our curriculum challenges students intellectually while providing the scaffolding they need to succeed. Small class sizes allow for individualized attention and differentiated instruction. Interdisciplinary learning experiences help students connect knowledge across subjects and see the real-world relevance of what they study. Critical thinking, collaboration, and creative problem-solving are developed throughout—skills that will carry students through high school, college, and beyond.

What sets our Middle School apart.

  • Advisory Program

Every student is part of a small advisory group led by a faculty mentor who monitors academic progress, supports social-emotional growth, and advocates for each student throughout the school year.

  • Project-Based Learning

Interdisciplinary projects connect subjects in meaningful ways—from a 3-D printed marble run in 5th-grade Science to a Greek symposium in History and a Mission to the Moon simulation in 6th grade.

  • Character Education and Peer Mentoring

The Hudson School’s three C’s—Compassion, Commitment, and Courage—are practiced, not just posted. Peer mentoring programs and student government give students real leadership experience.

  • Readiness for Upper School

By 8th grade, students are writing weekly fiction, completing Algebra 1, competing in Tri-State Model Congress, and preparing for the academic independence that high school demands.
